In a courtroom in Milan on March 17, 2023, a 38-year-old man from Foggia named Michele A. was found guilty of actual sexual violence against a 20-year-old woman. The incident, which occurred on September 9, 2022, was a chilling reminder of the dangers that lurk online.
The meeting was arranged at the San Donato Milanese metro station. The man, who introduced himself as Alessandro, was two years younger than he claimed to be. Upon exiting the station, the woman found herself confronted by Michele A., who was waiting for her in a blue Volkswagen Maggiolone.
Instead of taking her to a nice place as promised, the man stopped in a dead-end alley and locked the doors. The young woman, who had managed to record a video of the Maggiolone before the man drove away, was subjected to sexual acts. Michele A., in a desperate attempt to conceal his identity, deleted their conversation on the woman's phone and attempted to steal money from her bag.
The carabinieri traced the car using the video provided by the victim, leading to Michele A.'s arrest on September 15. It was later discovered that he had a criminal past involving theft and was under investigation before his arrest in September 2023.
Judge Rossana Mongiardo described Michele A.'s actions as driven by a sick and pathological dependency. The judge's statement indicated that Michele A. lacks empathy and exploits the vulnerabilities of his victims. The judge also mentioned that Michele A. uses a proven and effective method to satisfy his sexual instinct.
The judge concluded that Michele A. searches for contacts with female subjects through social platforms. The woman's report did not specify whether any physical harm was inflicted during the incident. However, the judge described Michele A. as a particularly dangerous subject. The incident occurred in a dead-end alley in an unspecified location.
The young woman, despite the harrowing ordeal, managed to escape from the car. The victim identified Michele A. with absolute certainty from a photo lineup. This conviction serves as a stark reminder for everyone to be vigilant, especially when meeting strangers online. It also underscores the need for stricter laws and measures to protect citizens from such predators.
